| 1,500 sq. ft. | $8,000–$15,000 |
| 2,000 sq. ft. | $10,000–$18,000 |
| 2,500 sq. ft. | $12,000–$21,000+ |
| 3,000 sq. ft. | $14,000–$25,000+ |
Why a 3,000 sq. ft. home is not automatically a 4-ton system
Insulation, air leakage, windows, orientation, climate, ceiling height and internal gains all affect load. Oversizing can reduce comfort and efficiency during milder weather.
Use square footage for budget, loads for equipment
Our calculator uses home size to create a budgeting range. Final system selection should come from a recognized load calculation and equipment performance at the local design temperature.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate are online heat pump cost estimates?
They are useful for budgeting but cannot account for a home’s measured heating load, duct condition, electrical service, installation access, equipment pairing and contractor pricing. Treat them as planning ranges, then compare written local quotes.
Should I choose a heat pump by square footage?
No. Square footage can help create a rough planning estimate, but equipment capacity should be selected from a recognized heating and cooling load calculation such as CSA F280.
Do rebates reduce the contractor quote upfront?
It depends on the programme. Some incentives are point-of-sale or contractor-administered, while others require applications or documentation. Confirm current programme rules before signing a contract.
